«Ukraine agreed to send its nuclear weapons to Russia to be disarmed there, in return for the three powers’ (Russia, US, Britain) promises to respect Ukraine. Specifically, they agreed never to coerce Ukraine with economic pressure; to never threaten or use force against Ukraine; and to respect Ukrainian territory and sovereignty.» Amassing of Russian soldiers near Ukrainian borders seems to clearly violate these conditions, to me.»

«Here are a few points I have noticed!
No mater how factual a comment is, if it points out inconsistencies of the present Ukrainian governments position the supporter of this government will inevitably call the poster Pro-Russian or pro-Putin! The revers does happen but to a much lesser degree!

The facts are that yes Putin is trying to assert Russia’s position in the region, that is quite clear!
At the same time it is clear and a fact that despite the claims by the present Ukraine government it is actual Ukrainian Russian speaker that are opposing then and not outsiders! «

«As you will note from the link below, Ukraine ranks very poorly in terms of transparency of the government. Sounds familiar to someone in Canada ? It also ranks poorly in terms of corruption. So, when the Kiev government speaks, listen carefully and check out facts. As in this case, doesn’t it sounds bizarre and contrary to logic for a corrupt Kiev government to blame a corrupt local police force for doing nothing when the facts are (1) 67 pro-Russian activists were arrested and (2) Kiev government needs the local police force to maintain peace and order.

Why are we supporting a corrupt government with no capability to manage the country, except pointing fingers to blame others ? The PM of Ukraine has no sense of responsibility and accountability. Sounds familiar ?»

«The current government in Ukraine already has issues with
-having overthrown the previous elected government,
-their disturbingly ethno-nationalist support base,
-their questionable financial and PR support from the USA
-the military refusing to obey orders and often joining with anti-kiev forces.
-Having a visceral anti-Russian political philosophy

Now they are unleashing a new fundamentalist compliant military on the people in the towns and having their mob supporters kill groups of people unfettered by the police.
Yup, sure glad Harper is using our tax dollars to prop up those guys.»

«Although I believe the fundamental divisions in Ukrainian society run deeper than pure foreign interference, I do believe the hostilities and sensitivities between Russia and the «West» do boil down to simple economics.

This can evidenced by the Russian Federations consistent and unquestioning support for Bashar al-Assad in Syria. In the Syrian civil war, one of the primary sources of funding and equipment for the Islamist rebels is Qatar.

For many years Qatar has sought Syrian approval for a pipeline from Qatar to Turkey, via neighbouring Arab nations. The economic effect of opening a virtually endless supply of Qatari natural gas into the European market would be disastrous for the Russian economy, so in exchange for Russian support, al-Assad refuses to permit such a pipeline.

This is what has led Putin and hardliners in the Kremlin to believe there is a geopolitical conspiracy in effect, a zero-sum game in which Russia either wins or loses. Putin views Western intervention in Russia affairs as an economic existential threat, which makes this situation all the more dangerous»

«Here’s an interesting read I found whilst browsing for more neutral type articles on this subject. https://libcom.org/news/report-visit-kiev-april-2014-29042014

This C14 is the Svoboda party’s youth militia, just as much neo-nazis as the right sector. There is another group called white hammer as well. This situation will not get better with these extremists running around and being given orders directly from the coup appointed leaders. Poor Ukraine, you are in for one hell of a civil war unless there is a huge intervention. The only hope is these groups start a bunch of infighting for power and get rid of each other»

«II read the headlines which are all B.S. Then I try to see what happened by reading «between the lines». With «instant popular media» one can find out the truth about happenings. Otherwise its «propaganda 104″. Do I believe that NATO should interfere in a civil war?… NO…Should Russia be worried about potential terrorists sponsored by NATO crossing the border and into Russia?…YES. Russia has a reason to be there. NATO does not. Ukraine is not a member of NATO.»

«Where are the democracy studs now? Why aren’t John McCain, Harper and Baird photo-oping on the streets of Ukrainian cities spouting their bilge on democracy?

Maybe it’s gotten a little confusing now that the side they backed is authorizing live fire on a civilian population. Tough to pick a side which is why they should never have gotten involved in something they knew nothing about.

How many «democratic revolutions» has the west started and how many have worked out as promoted? Let’s see (in the last few years) Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Sudan and now Ukraine. Successes? Zero. »

«Ukrainian problem? Too much if a temptation for Washington neo-cons.
Ukraine has a strategic location and is coveted by NATO. Encircling Russia while assuring Putin that’s not his concern?
What if Russia installs friendly regimes in Mexico and points its missiles at Uncle Sam, Washington does not have to be concerned?!?»

«As Canadians know, when you have a big powerful neighbour to consider you have to always act with consideration.»
